My Reflections On Edgar Allen Poe's Statement Of "The Black Minister's Black Veil"by Nathaniel Hawthorne

Edgar Allan Poe speculated that Minister Hooper may have had an affair with the young lady who died at the beginning of the story, as this is the first day he wears the veil, "and that a crime of dark dye, (having reference to the young lady) has been committed, is a point which only minds congenial with that of the author will perceive."

I agree with Poe because taken the setting of this story which is a highly religious Pilgrim town, you would have to be insane to walk aroung in public with a black veil hiding your face. All of the clergy and church members were whispering among each other " Minister Hooper has gone mad!" The young lady may have caused him to wear this veil but as Mr.Mcnamar stated "Just because Poe said it does not mean it is true."
