"Searching for Summer" Characteristics About Lily and Tom

All the characters in "Searching for Summer" had different traits. Mr. Noakes was greedy and selfish. This is because when Tom and Lily first met the repulsive man he was cursing for the delay of two old people that were getting off the bus very slowly but when he found out that Tom and Lily were staying at his inn he turned into a false nice man. Another event is when he stated that if he found a patch of sunshine he'd use that patch so he could get money and make it into a country club,or a holiday camp, or a trailer site. Another reason that Mr.Noakes is greedy is because he once he saw that Lily and Tom had a suntan -when they came back to the village from the old lady's' cottage- he confims them that they found a patch of sunshine and then he demands them to tell him where the patch of sunshine was. Tom and Lily lied for the sake of keeping the patch of sunshine hidden from people like Mr.Noakes that would disturb its beauty and abuse it for their own use.
Lily on the other hand was caring and believed in myths. Lily wanted to find the patch of sunshine because she wore a yellow dress on her wedding day since it was said that it would bring a bit of sunshine in her marriage life. She really believed in myths because even though the journey made her feel really chilly she still wore her wedding things because it was said that it would bring good luck. Lily was at first optimistic in their journey of finding a patch of sunshine. But when Tom and her couldn't find a patch of sunshine Lily concludes ithat the journey is hopeless and lost all desire of finding the sun when she and Tom arrived to Molesworth village. So when they went to give the old lady her bag -which Lily suggests should be done because the old lady seemed so frail( she was caring)-she was in awe and doubtful when she felt the warmth of the sun and saw the blue sky at the old ladies cottage.
