In the short story "What Means Switch" Mona and her family moved to a house in the Dutch colonial on the Bronx River Parkway. Mona is new and wants to be popular, so when she heard that her friend Danielle Meyers Frenched-Kissed one boyfriend, and just kissed the other one because he had braces she had to kiss someone too. When Mona walked into her class room on the next day she saw a new student sitting at a desk. The boy's name was Sherman. Sherman's mother put him in the same class as Mona so he wouldn't be the only Orientals in the class.
Eventually Sherman's connection with Mona grew stronger and they became boyfriend and girlfriend. In one the scenes's Moan and Sherman have a very intemaite conection. But after that Mona found out that Sherman was going back to Japan and thats when she really realized that she had feelings for him and that befor she was just using him to be kissed like every other girl in the school. After all it was to late, and Sherman left for Japan.
