What It Means To Switch"

Mona Chang is the protagonist in the story. She tries to find her spot in school because she was a new student. She perceives that being popular is fantastic since everyone paid attention to Danielle Meyers. So she decides to talk about her culture but lies and exaggerates the truth of her culture so it would interesting. Mona said that she knew karate when she didn't and she said that in old times Chinese people ate monkey brains instead of telling her friends about Chinese people eating tomatoes and that it was the Chinese specialty. She was confused on where she stood in junior high school. Mona was under peer pressure of Danielle. Danielle talks about French kissing someone and just kissing another person and Mona determines her self to kiss someone too but she didn't know how. But when Sherman came to the school as a exchange student, Mona became his guidance. She's sympathetic toward him even though it bothers her that he's trailing behind her like a shadow. Mona felt confused over her feelings about Sherman since she assumes that Sherman likes her so she's not sure if they are just close friends. Later in the story she finally realizes that she likes him.
