"Searching for Summer"

"Searching for Summer" was a very short story but it was an amazing book to read. Tom, Lily, Mr.Noakes, and the old lady are the main characters. This story was about how Lily is getting married to Tom and she is wearing a yellow dress. Now, the reason I am pointing this yellow dress out is because in the eightie's people wore yellow dresses and believed in omes strongly, so if Lily were to find a but of daylight her married life would be blessed with sunshine. So after the wedding comes the honeymoon. So, Tom and Lily's quest is to find a bit of sunshine and spend the time there.
Tom and Lily are still "Searching for Summer" but can't find any daylight, so they have to stay at a hotel or a motel to stay for the night. Now the motel their staying at is Mr.Noakes's motel and Mr.Noakes is one greedy, selfish, and crazy guy. The book points out one paragraph describing Mr.Noakes and it says, " Mr.Noakes was a repulsing-looking indivisual, but when he heard that Tom and Lily wanted a room for the night, he changed completely and gave them a leer that was full of false goodwill. He was a big red-faced man with wet, full lips, bulging pale-gray bloodshot eyes, and a crop of stiff greasy black hair. He wore Tennis shoes." That to me was a very good description of the man.
When they settle in Lily would like to go for a walk with Tom, but she notices the old lady's bag is in front of her. So she goes up to the old lady's house in the back of the village and returns the bag. Now Lily is cold and frustrated that she still can't find any sunshine, and the shoes are starting to give her blisters. They finally arrive at the place and return the bag. When they are there the old lady realizes that they got married. So when they settle in and have some tea the old lady says, "There me dear. Now us'll have a cup of tea, eh? Proper thirsty you'm fare to be, walking all the way to here this hot day." Hot day? There's not a bit of sunshine, what is she talking about? But then Lily and Tom saw a sqaure of sunshine laying on the fireplace. Finally they have found sunshine!!!
That's basically what the story is about. The expereince of the characters caused me to recognize tones and moods in the course of reading the book. Mr.Noakes to me had a nasty feeling. Just imagine someone cursing incontrollably and being disrespectful. His mood was usual frustrated. Lily's mood changed along the course of the story. First she was very excited of getting married and had a hope of finding a bit of sunshine. But in the middle she lost faith of finding this sunshine and her mood was just loss of hope. You can just tell by the description she was sad and angry. Tom felt the same. In the book it still had many descriptions and it was very good book. Even though this book had the good and bad parts it was a really good book. Tom and Lily finally found summer!
