"The Lottery"

The story was about a town of people that did the lottery every year. The lottery is a game that has all the towns people play it. Every family has to be in the lottery. In the story a family called Hutchinson were picked for the lottery and the wife thought it was unfair that they were picked. The town didn't help her at all and when she was picked to be stoned. Her family and the towns people were throwing stones at her even her little child, Davy. No one stood up for her while she screamed for help. It's ironic that this happened. The actual meaning of the lottery was that you would win a lot of money. In this short story the town celebrated the lottery as someone getting picked to be stoned. You would think that the day of the lottery would be a good thing because the writer described the day as a hot sunny day. The lottery at that point is expected that the town is excited about. Then there was foreshadowing that maybe somethings wrong with the setting on how the men seem to avoid being next to the stones the children were piling up. Then the families backed away from the black sacred box. The evidence showed that they were nervous of the event and frightened.
