"Searching for Summer"

I've read a short story called Searching for Summer . It took place in 1958, and it's about a lady named Lily, and a man named Tom. The mood of this story is exciting and devastating , because the newly married couple is on a quest because they said they were looking for sunlight. They are looking for sunlight because they want to spend their honeymoon in it. They didn't want to spend their honeymoon somewhere in their town because it was always cloudy and gloomy after the atom bomb was launched. Anyways, when Lily and Tom were on their quest, they met new people along the way. The story introduced us to Williams and Mrs. Hatching, by a great discription of them getting off a bus. Also the story told me that Williams , Mrs Hatching's son was blind. When the story told me that, the mood their was sad and appreiciative. I say the mood was appreiciative because it makes me appreciate that I have great eye sight! Also, we met another character, Mr. Noakes. The story told us that Mr. Noakes was a repulsive looking individual, he was a big, red faced man with wet, full lips, bulging pale gray blood-shot eyes, and greasy black hair.

Eventually, Lily and Tom finds sunlight, and is amazed how it is in one area. Lily and Tom found the sunlight because Mrs. Hatching dropped her purse and didn't realize it. So, Lily wanted to go and return it to her. When Lily and Tom went to return it to Mrs Hatching they decided to rest for a while because Lily's feet were soar from her wedding shoes. As they restd Tom and Lily realized that they found sunlight, and their mood turned from painful and fustrated to joyful and happy! Lily and Tom stayed at Mrs. hatching's house for three days, and decided to leave in the afternoon on the fourth day. When Lily and Tom went home they had a story to tell to their family, they could prove to their family that there is sunlight. From reading this short story I learned many things. I learned that a quest is to find self-knowledge, and I believe that Lily and Tom found self- knowledge.
