What Means Switch

What Means Switch is a short story. This story was about a girl named Mona Chang that came from Yonkers. Mona is a new student, and she wants to be popular. She tries to impress people by saying cool things about China. For example, Mona says something that is very ridiculous, "Did you know people can get pregnant from tea bags in China?" Anyways, one day a new boy came from japan, and his name was Sherman. Mona had to show Sherman around the school, and the society he will be living in. As Sherman and Mona got to now one another better, they begin to express their feelings for one another.

At the end of the school year, Sherman learned how to speak English better, and he learned about the society he was living in.During the summer, Sherman told Mona that he will be going back to Japan in a couple of days. When that day came, Sherman and his parents arrived at Mona's house. When Mona's parent were in the house with Sherman's parents, Sherman told Mona to come to the side of the house with him. When they were at the side of the house, Sherman decided to kiss Mona. What they did at their age was a little inappropriate. Also, Mona got her wish: In the beginning of the story Mona said that she hopes she can get her first kiss like Barbra, in the end it happened, but it didn't finish off quite well. When Sherman finished kissing Mona he decided to flip her, and she hit her head on a rock, and it didn't seem like he cared. At the end of the story, Barbra asked Mona what happened, and Mona tried to explain to Barbra that she can't tell her because it's none of her business. The theme of this story is that people can't change what their race is, but they can always change the way they act or think about something!
