Moods in "What Means Switch" by Gish Jen

In this short story, there is a lot of moods page by page. Why would there be different moods on one page? Well, this because everyone at every second changes their mood with each topic and what other people's opinions. In this "short" text, there is a lot of moods in each page. We'll start with page 118. On this page, it starts with Danielle Meyers, a girl who wears blue mascara and has gone steady with two boys at age 13. She is a popular girl who discusses about kissing those two boys. The main character, Mona, a Chinese girl, thinks she would have to kiss a boy to become popular girl in her new school. She had just moved from Yonkers into a town with mostly Jewish people. Then she goes on and explains us that you can get pregnant with green tea in China and she shows off by speaking in Chinese. Then she meets a Japanese boy named Sherman. She supports him though daily life in the United States. He gives her gifts and they begin to like each other. The mood here is love and gratitude. In the end of this wonderful text, he said that she cannot be Japanese person. So now that she doesn't like him.
